We love dark, twisty, thrilling murder mysteries! So, when the good folk at &Pictures surprised us with an exclusive preview of their television-first edgy movie, “Foot Fairy”, we got super kicked! it won’t be erroneous to say that we are still reeling from its chills. The psychological crime thriller held us by our collars right from the opening sequence. With its gripping narrative, Footfairy delivers the perfect amount of thrill, mystery, and intrigue. Set in the hustle-bustle of Mumbai, Foot Fairy follows the story of CBI officer, Vivaan Deshmukh (played by the ever-amazing Gulshan Devaiah) who is on the heels of a mysterious serial killer, driven by a peculiar foot fetish, and goes by the moniker, “Foot Fairy.” With this intense cat and mouse chase, the theme of obsession is covered masterfully. The film is a poignant rumination on how far an obsession can take someone, and where does one finally need to draw the line.

While we held on to our popcorn in this crime drama, the sense of foreboding did not leave us right until the last frame of the movie. The moments of fear and anxiety were downright palpable, especially in the scene where the Foot Fairy attacks the girl while she is grooming herself in front of a mirror.

The intensity of the movie kept us hooked on to the edges of our seats, but the icing on the cake was Gulshan Devaiah’s towering first time act of a no-nonsense cop. Another impressing surprise is the stellar performance by Kunaal Roy Kapur who was the perfect ‘other side of the coin’ to Gulshan’s character. Sagarika Ghatge plays her role as Devika, who is Vivaan Deshmukh’s lady love, with utmost sincerity. Her arc is well-used to further his search for this murky ‘Foot Fairy.’

We adore Gulshan Devaiah’s versatility, and his little mannerisms to convey his character’s changing moods. His demeanour at the start of the movie when he receives the call about the killing, to his explosive reaction in the last bits of the film, this progression and arc, truly brings out the way his character grows and adapts to the reigning theme of the movie with ease.

The jump scares are effective, with the background music by leading you on. The movie’s thrilling end is bound to leave the audience grappling with what obsession can mean, apart from the drive to fuel goals. The way every frame of the movie builds up towards that final confrontation, or is it? We will keep you guessing.
Kanishk Verma in the director’s chair, who also helmed the writing, does not disappoint. What we loved is the way Verma has subverted the happy vibe of a fairy, who is always so giving, and give it a deadly twist with this ‘Foot Fairy’, who only knows to take. We love the play of lights in the movie that precedes an unpleasant incident.

A TV first initiative ‘Foot Fairy’ from &pictures granted our wish of being wowed by a story, gripping us through and through. So, take our word and tune into &Pictures to check out this crackling murder mystery on 24th October at 9 pm, and you will be thanking us for this recco later.
