Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith on Saturday arrived in Mumbai to join his new IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals and will undergo a mandatory seven-day hard quarantine. Smith, who was released by Rajasthan Royals, was roped in by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore at the IPL auctions in February.
“2 monumental icons in one frame. Welcome to the DC family, @steve_smith49 #YehHaiNayiDilli @tajmahalmumbai,” Delhi Capitals tweeted a picture of Smith with the Gateway of India in the frame.
Steve Smith will play under the captaincy of young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant this year. DC name Pant as their captain for IPL 2021 after regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to a shoulder injury that he picked up during the ODI series against England.
Steve Smith scored three half-centuries in the 2020 season but he could not inspire his team to the playoffs in UAE. Although, his international experience makes him a huge asset with the bat and will be a great top-order addition for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.
